The Virtue of Patience

Spread the love

As I’ve been lying in wait for the past 2 weeks for reasons out of my control, I realized that sometimes we must exercise patience in both our personal and business lives.

ReNursing Edu (formerly known as ReNursing Career Consulting) has been in existence for 5 years now. The business has taken forms I didn’t realize it would when I first began. Looking back, I realize I lacked patience when I formed the business.

I thought money would materialize out of nowhere. I thought clients would flock to me. I thought my books would be bestsellers and I’d make 6-figures just by writing books. Sadly, none of that has come true. But to my surprise, I have gained loyal followers, I have made supplemental income and I have written books and articles that people have loved.

These small victories have kept me going when times get tough and I want to give up. I think of the small victories to be something like non-scale victories (NSV), like when you’ve been eating right and working out for weeks, but the scale doesn’t budge. Then one day, you put on an t-shirt that used to be tight and now it’s loose in some places! It isn’t much, but it’s enough to keep you motivated to keep going!

Right now my patience is being tested in more ways than I could have ever imagined and it seems easier to just give up, but I’m not. I’m going to weather out the storm and hopefully come out to sunshine and rainbows on the other end.

On the business front, I’m working on a couple of new products for nurse practitioners and nurse practitioner students. They are in the editing and production phase respectively. One of my books (non-nursing) is in the process of becoming an audiobook- I’ve recorded it and now the producer is mixing it to make it sound great. My non-nursing business is still in the works too-I’ve finished my handbook, liability forms and some marketing materials on Canva.

It sounds like a lot, but really it’s not considering I’m at a virtual stand-still with some of these projects due to personal reasons right now. In the next few weeks after a few things are checked off my list, I’ll be able to breathe easier and kick into gear for everything that is to come in the future.

Until then, I’m going to just breathe and enjoy the semi-relaxed state I’m in.

Tell me, what have you had to have patience with recently in your life? How did it affect your business if you have one?
