Why lifestyle businesses are good for nurses

Spread the love

Many nurses have aspirations of starting their own business for a variety of reasons. Maybe you need more money, want more time to do the things you love, or just want to leave a legacy for your loved ones.

In the recent years, many people have forgone starting a traditional business that may leave you working on your business more than your job as an employee (the average entrepreneur works on their business 66 hours vs 47 hours as an employee, btw). The term for this type of business is a lifestyle business.

What is a lifestyle business and why would it be the best for a nurse to start?

A lifestyle business is a business that works around your lifestyle, not the other way around. Lifestyle businesses, according to Wikipedia, are meant to sustain a particular level of income (and no more) or to provide a foundation on which to enjoy a particular lifestyle.

Typically you are the sole employee of a lifestyle business, while a traditional business involves employees and a more 9-5 type schedule when all is said and done.

Lifestyle businesses are meant to turn a fairly quick profit with you working wherever you choose, whether that is in a local cafe, the beach, or at home.

The main perk of lifestyle businesses is the flexibility they provide. You won’t get the amount of flexibility with a traditional business. Think about it… you run around trying to get funding for your business and once you do you bust your butt to start making a profit to make back your initial investment.

Minimal start-up fees are typical for lifestyle businesses and you can work on them during your off days. Having a nurses schedule offers the perfect set-up for a lifestyle business, especially if you have 3-4 days off per week.

In addition to all of these perks, working as a solopreneur offers you an opportunity to hone your business skill since you will be the one to handle all aspects of a business including marketing, accounting, sales, and customer relations.
